Duskin Hill writes upmarket fiction rooted in landscape, memory, regional identity, and the pressure between progress and what people refuse to surrender. Raised in the Houston area with deep Texas roots, his work is shaped by the geography, culture, contradictions, and communities of the places he knows best—from Gulf Coast energy corridors and sprawling cities to ranchland, isolated highways, courthouse towns, and contested ground across West Texas. His fiction often explores people caught between survival and preservation, economic necessity and moral consequence, memory and reinvention.
He attended Texas Tech University, where he studied sociology with a minor in communication studies, deepening an interest in the relationship between people, power, land, and belonging. Rather than treating setting as backdrop, his work approaches landscape as an active force that shapes behavior, conflict, identity, and consequence.
Although much of his fiction is rooted in Texas, Hill is drawn to stories shaped by isolation, environmental pressure, buried history, family fracture, institutional power, and communities negotiating change. His work blends literary restraint with commercial tension, often centering on land conflict, water, extraction economies, inheritance, loyalty, and the uneasy bargains people make to survive.
His novels currently inhabit the space between modern Western, literary suspense, and contemporary regional fiction — grounded in physical detail, moral complexity, and the emotional weight of place.
When not writing, Hill spends time researching regional history, traveling backroads across North America, and developing future fiction projects grounded in place and human consequence. He lives in Texas with his wife and two teenage daughters, where life is also supervised by Oakley, a Great Pyrenees mix with a strong personality and very few doubts about who actually runs the household.
