About the Author

About me

I’ve always been drawn to history, but not the kind that sits still on a page.

What’s interested me more is how it lives on—how stories get carried forward, changed over time, and shaped by the people telling them. Genealogy pulled me in for that reason.  It felt like a way to trace where people came from, but I’ve never been satisfied leaving them as names and dates. I’ve always wanted to understand who they were and what remains of them now.

Path to writing

I didn’t come to writing directly. My background runs through sociology and communication, into work in mental health and leadership, and eventually into the tech world, where I now work in User Experience (UX).

Writing was always there in some form—I started in journalism at one point at Texas Tech—but it took time before it became something steady. These days, it fills the margins. Evenings, weekends, time I probably should be spending elsewhere.

It’s become something I don’t really turn off.

Life today

I live in Katy, Texas, near Houston, just a stone's throw from where I grew up. I’ve spent significant time in the South Plains of Texas, the front range of Colorado, and in the Texas Hill Country, but this part of the state has always been home.

I’ve got a wonderful wife, two rambunctious teenage daughters, and an ol' half Great Pyrenees named Oakley who tends to be nearby for most of the fun.

What I'm after

I’m drawn to stories that don’t settle into a single version. The ones that leave room for contradiction. For memory. For the possibility that what we’ve been told isn’t the whole of it.

I’ve never believed history is fixed. It’s shaped by perspective, by experience, by the lens each person brings to it. That doesn’t make it unreliable—it just means there’s always more there if you’re willing to look for it.

That’s the kind of story I’m interested in telling.
